“We are ecstatic to have the opportunity to host Mac McDonald and Vision Cellars at our upcoming Winemaker Dinner here at Primeaux Cheese and Vino,” says Owner Deborah Primeaux. “We are the only restaurant in the Birmingham area with the privilege of hosting Mr. McDonald, so we expect this wine dinner to be exceptional and well attended.”

Founded by Mac and Lil McDonald in 1995, Vision Cellars is located in the Russian River Valley American Viticultural Area (AVA) of Sonoma County, Calif. The winery specializes in small lots of pinot noir, rosé and a sauvignon blanc/pinot gris blend and has garnered the attention and accolades of magazines such as Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast, among many others. Additionally, Vision Cellars’ wine has been served at the White House for the past two presidents, most recently on Aug. 7, 2014. McDonald is one of only a handful of African-American winemakers in California.

Attendees of the Winemaker Dinner will get to meet and chat informally with McDonald while savoring flights of wines served with a perfect food pairing. Tickets are $95 per person, and reservations are required as seating is limited. For reservations, please email [email protected] or call 205.623.5593.

Located in the Summit and inspired by the slow-food movement of southern Europe, Primeaux Cheese and Vino offers an alternative to loud, fast, tasteless food by providing a casual environment where diners can enjoy fine foods without typical fine-dining prices or pretense.

About Mac McDonald

A native Texan, winemaker Mac McDonald was born the son of a moonshiner considered by many to be the finest moonshine maker in Texas. McDonald’s mother, Bessie, along with her brothers and sister, made wine from various fruits they grew. Even though McDonald grew up around distilled spirits and fruit wines, he did not develop a taste for either until much later, when he tasted his first Burgundy wine in 1955. Years later, after tasting pinot noir from around the world and making several trips to Burgundy, he and his wife, Lil, purchased the best fruit available and bottled their first pinot noir in 1997. McDonald’s personal vision to become a winemaker was finally realized.
